PHILOSOPHY

BRIGHT
BEGINNINGS provides a faith-filled foundation for all of our preschoolers
in the hope that they will grow into healthy and focused elementary school
students who will be lifelong learners and
successful, productive Catholic citizens.
BRIGHT
BEGINNINGS
believes
that PLAY is LEARNING for all
three and four year olds. The time spent at developmentally appropriate PLAY
activities is time planned by the teacher to encourage the proper growth and
development of all small motor and large motor skills as a foundation for
reading and writing readiness. The social and emotional growth of our young
children is also an important part of this program.
BRIGHT
BEGINNINGS considers the physical, the temporal and the interpersonal
aspects of creating an effective preschool environment. The physical
environment is word-rich, colorful and accessible for all students. We know
that the young child’s feeling of safety and security come from consistent
routines and schedules. Times of full group are alternated with times of small
group or alone activities. Finally, both the teacher and her assistant provide
lots of fun choices; positive encouragement and support and enough time to
explore and discover. The children are allowed to learn from each other and solve their own
problems and challenges without adult intervention whenever possible.
Developing communication skills is practiced with
English conversation, songs and stories throughout the day.
DAILY
SCHEDULE

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS day begins with a Morning Meeting where the children gather
for a group lesson filled with songs, poems and general plans for the day.
Preschoolers learn how to
play in small groups at teacher-planned learning centers.
Teachers continually rotate various hands-on experiences in these centers
throughout the school year.
Examples of these
Play/Learning Centers include:
COMPUTERS, HOUSEKEEPING, BLOCK BUILDING,
ABC’S, MATH MANIPULATIVES, SCIENCE
LANGUAGE/WRITING,
and LISTENING.
While some children are at
play stations, the teacher takes a small group of students for a
developmentally appropriate lesson in Religion, Science, Social Studies,
or Small Motor Skills.
Preschoolers then gather again for another
full group activity, sharing snack and story, Movement/Large Motor or SMART
Board fun.
Those preschoolers who remain
for the full day may bring their own lunch or order from our school hot lunch
selections. Weather permitting, the children then go
outdoors; followed by a rest/quiet time and then some tabletop activities to
complete the day.
FAITH-FILLED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Sharing
our faith is an important part of BRIGHT
BEGINNINGS. Preschoolers follow the Religion curriculum of Our
Sunday Visitor. They pray throughout the day and make short visits to Church
throughout the year. Pre-schoolers participate in
monthly Prayer Partner activities with the students in one QPGS older grade.
They also participate in our holiday programs and various school assemblies.
