Your student's summer experience at JrNYLC...

Dear Mrs. DeRogatis,

I am happy to report that Lauren Mocik, your nominee to the Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC), successfully completed the Conference this summer! Lauren's participation was a key component in the overwhelming success of the Conference, so I thank you once again for nominating her.

Over the six-day span of JrNYLC, Lauren explored the Washington, D.C. capital region, investigating leadership throughout our nation's history, engaging in fast-paced experiential simulations and developing her leadership skills. Highlights from Lauren's experience include:

  • An in-depth investigation of the traditions of American leadership as revealed by the region’s most historically rich sites: Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia
  • Hands-on exercises in which Lauren gained key leadership skills, including communication, problem solving, teamwork and goal setting
  • The “Voices of Change” simulation, which tasked Lauren with developing a project to solve an ongoing problem in your community or school

I hope you have enjoyed reading about Lauren's summer JrNYLC experience. When you next speak with her, be sure to ask her how she is applying the lessons of JrNYLC to her everyday life. I am sure that you will find her firsthand perspective on the Conference interesting and informative. Please look for my letter and e-mail, arriving later this fall, with information on how to nominate additional scholars to attend JrNYLC.

Sincerely,
