DETENTION

 POLICY   UPDATE  FOR  2007-08

(Grades 4 to 8)

DETENTION is used both as a deterrent for inappropriate behavior as well as a punishment for consistent violation of school rules.

Consistent DETENTIONS should not be taken lightly by parents as they are a reflection of the family’s commitment to the standards of Queen of Peace Elementary School. Parents must make a concerned effort to impress on their children the seriousness of violating rules at any and  all levels!!

DETENTION is held on alternate Friday afternoons from 3 to 3:30 PM with Miss Terri. School  DETENTION days will be marked on our monthly school calendar.

DETENTION notices are given to any student who has been late 3x’s; has been without Student ID; has been out of uniform 3x’s; or any other consistent issue of  misconduct  as stated in our school handbook. The classroom teacher may initially  handle their own issues of misconduct with a class detention or a suspension of some class privilege. School DETENTION is used as a last resort by all of our classroom teachers.

DETENTION notices have three copies:

White Copy is for parents to sign and return to school.

Pink Copy is  for Miss Terri.

Yellow Copy is for the classroom teacher.

Excessive and consistent DETENTIONS  for any reason or for any accumulation of reasons are reflected  on the student’s report card under “Obeys School Rules”.

Remember that all behavior is a choice---each and every one of us must take the time to make good choices at all times and to follow rules for a  safe and effective  learning environment for  all students!
